A fresh start for the CRX drivetrain

This entry is part 15 of 41 in the series TrackDays EF7 HONDA CRX

With the engine out of the bay (again !), it’s now time to prepare the final reassembly of all peripherals and drive-trains. Main subframes are send blasted, receive a prior and are finally powdercoated in black. Same treatment for engine mounts and master-cylinder stopper.

When the steering rack was put out of the car, I discovered a cracked boot that needs to be replaced.

The cracked boot.

With the steering rack dismantled for boot replacement, I decided to replace the other boot. And then I remembered that there is a Nylon part ‘inside’ the rack that is very difficult to remove. And even more when you work with the rack installed on the car …

So I also bought the part from Honda. And in this situation, I started thinking about the ‘quicker’ steering pinions for the rack available at Quaife company …

But it’s time to stop here. Even if removing a part from the car and having full access for an overhall is a really good opportunity, managing the global budget for the car is necessary and it’s not an easy task. I can’t have a fully rebuilt shorter steering rack … mounted on a car I can’t drive because I have not enough money to put the wheels back on it and fill in the tank !

So new boot, new Nylon ring and … that’s it !!!
